Although being a cover girl is nothing new to Valerie Concepcion, she admitted that her current photo for the newly reformatted Playboy Philippines magazine was her most daring experience in a photo shoot. “So far eto yung pinaka-daring na ginawa ko in a men’s magazine na pag-pose talaga. Kung nakabili kayo ngmen’s magazine na pinag-pose-an ko before, ito yung pinaka-daring na makikita nila na ginawa ko.I’m hoping na magustuhan nila. Ito talaga yung pinaka-daring of all,” she told Push.com.ph.
The 24-year-old host-actress was not fazed by comments comparing her cover with that of KC Concepcion’s for another magazine this month. Valerie said she considers the comparison more of a compliment than anything else. “I already saw her cover but not the inside pages. More than parang magalit or mainsulto ako kasi kino-compare ako, I feel flattered kasi siyempre KC Concepcion is KC Concepcion. Anak yan ni Gabby Concepcion at ni Ms. Sharon Cuneta. Siyempre nakakatuwa naman. Masaya yun kasi napag-uusapan (laughs),” she explained.
Valerie, who is staring in the upcoming Kapamilya series Eboy, claimed that she was very confident about posing for the international men’s magazine franchise. “Basta one thing that I’m very proud of is even if I have a daughter and I am a mom, I still feel like parang hindi ko pinapabayaan yung sarili ko and yun nga, yung lagi nilang sinasabi na ang description sa akin is ‘hot momma’ ‘di ba? So I guess yun yung isa sa mga masasabi kong edge ko na even if I’m already a mom, I’m a hot mom (laughs). Nahihiya ako sa sagot ko (laughs),” she joked.
The host-actress revealed she did try to look her best for the magazine shoot. “Nung nalaman ko na malapit na yung shoot, December yun so from the day na nalaman ko na I’m going to do the pictorial for Playboy, sabi ko kailangan hindi ako magkakakain masyado (laughs). Kasi siyempre nagbakasyon ako so medyo nagkakakain ako. So kinailangan ko magpapayat, kailangan huwag masyado kumain so yun yung preparationna ginawa ko,” she shared.
The sexy actress said that she almost decided to quite posing for men’s magazines. “Nagkataon na timing lang talaga na tinawagan ako ng Playboy. Nasa right timing na parang I wanted to do something different, parang ganun or something na magpasabog by 2012. So it was the right place at the right time. Actually ngayon ayoko na magsalita ng tapos dahil before this I already told myself tama na, I wouldn’t pose na for any men’s magazine, tama na, ganyan. Pero nung sinabi nga ng manager ko na parang magre-reformat ang Playboy and they want me to do the cover sa first issue nila. So nag-yes ako,” she revealed to Push.com.ph.
Valerie is proud to be Playboy’s first cover girl for the year. “Kasi before I said I don’t want to pose na muna eh. Pero nung sinabi sa akin ng manager ko I was like, ‘Wow. Okay, sige.’ Siyempre na-honor ako na ako ang gusto nila,” she shared.
Valerie also said that she made sure she got her mom and daughter Fiona’s approval before doing the sexy pictorial. “Actually the staff were very nice kasi sobrang nakipag-compromise sila sa akin so parang nag-meet halfway talaga kami between what they want and what I wanted to do. Kasi nga pag Playboy sobrang daring.Ako naman puwedeng paunti-unti muna (laughs). nag-compromise kami about this issue and I’m very thankful about that din. Talagang umayon naman sila sa mga request ko,” she shared with Push.com.ph’
Valerie said she is lucky because her six-year-old daughter Fiona understands what she is doing. “She’s used to it kasi ma-internet yung batang yun eh. So pag nakakita siya ng mga pictures ko na sexy, sinasabi lang niya,‘Mama ang sexy sexy mo naman!’ Ganun lang siya so understanding naman kasi she’s very smart. Very intelligent siya so parang alam ko na naiiintindihan niya I’m just doing all this work for her,” she said.
Although she is showing her sexy side again, Valerie clarified that this does not mean she wants to be known as a sexy actress. “That’s not really my image because I’m part of Eboy and that’s a wholesome show eh. It’s about family tapos bida yung bata na si Bugoy (Cariño). I guess I’ve always been the sexy slash wholesome image naman kahit nung Wowowee days pa eh. I think yun pa din up to now,” she explained.
Valerie also admitted she is not afraid to be objectified by men after posing for men’s magazines. “No naman.As mayabang as it may sound, sanay ako na parang sometimes nga hindi ko na napapansin kung pinagtitinginan ako or not. Pero kasi it’s part of being a celebrity talaga so hindi ko naiisip na it’s just becauseino-objectify ako ng mga guys but because I am a celebrity, parang ganun,” she added.
