Dionisia Pacquiao, the celebrity mother of boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, said she is elated over the news that her son is considering retiring from boxing next year.
Mommy Dionisia, as she is fondly called, said she has long been praying for his son to retire from the sport.
"Salamat sa Diyos. Salamat talaga. Masayang-masaya talaga ako kasi gusto ko na talaga siya magretiro. Bata pa kasi siya nang mag-umpisa sa boksing," she said.
She also thanked God that her son has stopped gambling.
Over the weekend, Pacquiao said he is planning to retire in 2013 because it may not look good to be seen fighting in the boxing ring now that he has accepted the Church's offer to become a Bible ambassador.
Last month, the boxing superstar disclosed that he has renewed his faith and has turned his back on vices, including womanizing, gambling and drinking.
Meanwhile, Mommy Dionisia spent Valentine's Day ballroom dancing with her friends at J-Mix Resto Bar in General Santos City, which is owned by her boxer-son.
She explained that she really goes ballroom dancing every Tuesday. "Nataon lang na Valentine's Day," she said.
Even if she spent the day of hearts without her children, she said she is happy.
"Masaya ako kasi marami naman akong natanggap galing sa mga friends ko. Pinakagusto ko 'yung malaking teddy bear," she said. --
